"ecosleep launches a world first bed linen concept, set to change the bed linen industry"

So what is a Coshee?
Coshee
is an abbreviation of Cover sheet. A Coshee® is a convenient two part continental quilt cover & top sheet concept for your bed. It consists of a top-sheet and duvet cover that clips together. Once attached it provides a healthy & hygienic alternative to sleeping under your duvet without a top sheet. It further reduces the need to wash your duvet cover as often thus reducing your carbon footprint and providing an eco-friendly sleeping environment.

Yes but what does it do that a normal top sheet and quilt does?
Well effectively it is a protective sheet between your quilt and the person sleeping. Sure, if you use a top sheet on your bed it does that, but Coshee® was developed to be a time saving product. As the development process went on it became obvious that there were many other benefits. Reduced time making beds, reduced washing of quilt covers; which also saves time, water, energy and uses fewer chemicals, which are disposed into our environment. Remember you can still use a Coshee® even if you still like to have a top sheet tucked into your bed!

So is it all it made from bamboo?
The sheets and pillow case in our Classic Range are made from bamboo cotton. All other material are 100% pure cotton.

What are the benefits of bamboo cotton?
Bamboo is grown without pesticides. It also grows fast, requiring no replanting. It absorbs carbon dioxide, releases oxygen into the atmosphere and uses very little water to grow, leaving only a small carbon footprint. This is the ethos of Ecosleep Australia. Bamboo absorbs moisture and unlike many man made fibres, it will wick perspiration away from your skin. Bamboo is a natural and hypoallergenic fibre which naturally breathes. This keeps you warm in winter and cool in summer. Further information is available on our website.

Are your products 100% bamboo fibre or is there cotton mixed in?
Our products are 60% natural bamboo and 40% cotton.  60% is enough for all the technical elements to work very strongly.  Plus, it just has a better 'feel' or handle in this mix.

Are the qualities quoted for bamboo sheeting just marketing hype
or are they for real?
In cold weather the cross sectional structure of the fibre traps warm air.  In the heat, the nature of the fabric is to keep you cool, it's highly breathable.  One theory is that it retains a little more moisture in it's microstructure because it's so absorbant, and this stays cooler in the heat. This is pure speculation and there is no way at this time to test it.  Bamboo sheeting wicks away moisture a different way to the usual fabrics, by absorbing, then evaporating into the air and as a single layer it performs very well in this regard. There is a lot of talk about the antibacterial side of this fabric. There are results that show that microbes do not breed on the fabric and so as a result over a period of days and even hours they die without breeding much - unlike on cotton, for example. That's why the fabric is considered antibacterial.

What are you doing to minimise environmental impact? Apart from the inherent natural growth pattern of bamboo (which requires no pesticides or fertilizers) bamboo has a massive high yield per acre and is probably the most sustainable crop in the world. This combines with a high net ‘positive carbon impact’ of the process as a whole. This is bamboo's heritage and it is one, we try to follow as much as possible at all stages in the production process.

Is it ok to wash bamboo sheeting normally?  Does it lose its special qualities?
You can wash bamboo products with everything else just like cotton - warm water, or cold according to regular washing instructions. Our products can also be ironed with out any worries. Bamboo/cotton sheets need little detergents due to their anti-bacterial properties which is better for your family.

Does bamboo shrink?
Shrinkage is slightly higher in bamboo material than cotton. We prewash our sheeting prior to manufacture to keep shrinkage at a minimum.

Are your bamboo sheets dyed?
Our sheets are not coloured or dyed and are presented in their natural, neutral colour.

Where is your bamboo grown?
Our bamboo is grown in China. As bamboo becomes more popular we hope other countries will begin to grow bamboo specifically for fabrics.

What species of bamboo is used for your products?
The species of bamboo our yarn comes from is Phyllostachys pubescens - Moso bamboo. Historically, it's most commonly used for construction purposes and edible bamboo shoots.

What part of the bamboo plant is used to generate fibres used in your sheeting, and how is it processed?
The Bamboo is crushed and pulped and then its natural cellulose, which contains the bamboo 'kun', is extracted to make fibre. The viscose is regenerated into a fibre that's like cotton in appearance, but much softer. It's then spun into yarn (it's often mixed with 40% cotton at this stage). From the yarn, it's then knitted (or woven now as well) into fabric.

What is your target market?
Our target market is anybody who sleeps in a bed with a quilt cover. The product was developed because I had 4 children who were reluctant to make their beds and use top sheets. Changing and replacing a doona became a nightmare, so this reduced the amount of times a quilt cover needed to be washed. Making a bed with a Coshee® is easy for children as young as 6 years of age and becomes a breeze for teenagers, young adults, married couple and the elderly. Coshee® can be used anywhere, the home, holiday houses, caravans, houseboats, ‘bed and breakfast’, in fact anywhere you sleep. There is growing interest in the hospitality, hotel and accommodation industry as using a Coshee® will reduced time in making up rooms and provides a more hygienic alternative to the use of normal sheets as the quilt inside the cover is always protected.

How is it more hygienic?
Regardless of how clean you think you are; sweat, body oils, dirt and dead skin will stain and mark your quilt cover. Try this; take off you quilt cover and see how it has marked and stained around the top edge. If you use a Coshee®, this will reduce the incidence of this occurring. Combine a Coshee® with an Ecosleep™ 100% pure silk quilt which is water proofed using a cotton shell impregnated with Aloe Vera you now have a hygienic sleeping environment. If your struggle to get your teenager to shower or wash every night – this maybe your solution.

What’s the difference between a Doona™, comforter, duvet and quilt?
Essentially they all perform the same role; they go over your bed to keep you warm. However, Doona is a trademarked brand, comforter is a name used in the US, duvet is a name used in the UK and Europe and quilt is probably the most common name used in Australia. Regardless they all do the same thing. .
